It is an attempt to express through leather and texture, the fusion of the past with the skills of the present and the promise of the future. The passionate story of these ancient Anatolians narrated in 'The Leather Age, The 8 Civilizations of Anatolia' is here accompanied by the world´s first love story, the song of the Sumerian goddess Inanna and her husband Dumuzi....

'The Leather Age, The 8 Civilizations of Anatolia' is being promoted by the TURKISH LEATHER COUNCIL with the objective of promoting the Turkish leather industry and it's capabilities, with a 500 years old tradition. The exhibition develops from a profound research through multiple historical archives from the Anatolic Civilizations Library, telling a powerful story through 16 costumes and 12 accessories utilizing only leather. The echoes of the 8 civilizations that lived in Anatolia are transported to our era. Hatiçe Gökçe following the traces of the Hittitic, Lydian, Arzawan, Phrygian, Ionian, Urartu, Assyrian, and Trojan civilizations, creates an organic link with the past that at the same time focuses on the future.
The key element that gives life to this new link is the respect and admiration that Gökçe feels for leather and how through the usage of this precious material, she tells the story of these civilizations in the most sophisticated, powerful and provoking manner. Hatiçe Gökçe uses very unique and 'out of the box' techniques in the production of these pieces, using the leather as if it was a mirror that reflects a design concept totally timeless. As if she was a wizard, Gökçe 'gifts' each costume and accessory with a charismatic personality which allows everyone of them to stand out individually in the context of the exhibition. The visual impact of the whole 'ensemble' is extremely powerful.
'The Leather Age, The 8 Civilizations of Anatolia' proposes a new and refreshing format above and beyond the traditional forms of presentation such as a Fashion Show, opening new windows of expression through Design, Art and new forms of communication. Gökçe, blends together concepts such as body and identity developed under a historical and anthropological aspects particular to these territories. 'The Leather Age, The 8 Civilizations of Anatolia' is a project that deepens in the research and creative processes, that does not concentrate at all in the 'wearability', going above and beyond the commercial concerns. What is really magical and outstanding about it is to witness the 'flirt' that Hatiçe Gökçe has with Design and Art, that makes of 'The Leather Age, The 8 Civilizations of Anatolia' an exhibition that will leave a deep impact behind.
